The May Luncheon was held on May 3, 2007 at the Holly Hill Inn in Midway. There were over thirty members and guests in attendance. Scholarship Committee member Kelly Brengelman presented Amber Murphy with the MWC $500 Scholarship for use at the college of her choice. Ms. Murphy also won the door prize which was a gift certificate for dinner for two at the Holly Hill Inn.
Sue Dozier, former Sixth District Governor of the KFWC and past president of the Woodford County Woman’s Club, installed the officers for the 2007-2008 club year. President Debra Shockley, First Vice President Sarah Wilson, Second Vice President Genie Graf, Treasurer Ann Daugherty, Recording Secretary Ruth Olive, Corresponding Secretary Penny Woods, Parliamentarian Tonya Steele, Trustees Ruth Olive, Mary Lou Watkins and Leslee Roberts. The Clubwoman of the Year award was presented to Niesje Spragens. Ms. Spragens has been a club member since 1972. This was the first time in 27 years that the Slate of Officers did not include Ms. Spragen’s name.
The next regular meeting of the Midway Woman’s Club will be Thursday, April 5th at 7:00 pm at the Clubhouse, 233 S. Gratz St. in Midway. The speaker is Midway resident Danny Smith presenting: "My Life in Law Enforcement and the Secret Service".
Mr. Smith is currently a liaison for local law enforcement with the Department of Justice and a retired Secret Service agent.

(back to the top)Dr. Ron Wells, of Versailles, was the featured guest for the Second Annual Midway Woman's Club Antiques Roadshow. Members and guests brought everything from prints, coke memorabilia, beaded bags, figurines, red and brown transfer ware, majolica, stereograph cards, books, silverware, clocks, dolls and collector plates. Dr. Wells reviewed and appraised each item. He provided the history of the items and also if it is a desirable collectible today or not. Calendars and yearbooks will be available at the February meeting. Pecans are still available for $7.00 per bag call 846-4361 to purchase.

Midway Woman's Club Annual Home and Garden Consignment Sale
The MWC is looking for additional sellers for this years home and garden sale which has been extended an extra day. The sale will be open to the public starting Saturday, April 29 from 8 am to 1 pm and again Sunday, April 30 from noon to 4 pm at the Clubhouse, 233 South Gratz Street in Midway.
Good condition household items, dishes, electronics, books, frames, small furniture, lamps, decorations, towels, bedding and garden items will be for sale. There will also be plants from local gardens for sale in the front yard.
Set up is Friday, April 28 from 5 pm to 7 pm. A presale will be held that night for sellers only starting at 7:00 pm. MWC members may shop that same evening starting at 7:30 pm.
Sellers do not have to be a club member to participate. Each seller is required to work at least one two hour shift during the sale.
Sellers will keep 75% of the items amount and the MWC keeps 25% of the items amount.
Items are to be marked in 25 cent increments.
Call 846-4057 to register as a seller and get a seller number.
The club has tags for sellers to use.
Cash only please.
Items not picked up after the sale will be donated.
The Spring Children's Consignment Sale was very successful and a big thank you goes out to all the sellers, helpers and buyers. The next sale will be in the fall for fall and winter merchandise so start gathering things now.
The Home and Garden Consignment Sale is set for April 29 and 30 at the Clubhouse. Start gathering your home and garden items along with any plants to sell. Call 846-4057 for a seller number.
The recipient of the MWC Scholarship will be announced at the May Luncheon.

The May Luncheon will be at noon on May 12 at Bistro La Belle. The phone committee will be calling everyone to get RSVP's. The price for the meal has not been established yet.
This month's speaker was Danae Peckler, Graduate Research Assistant in the Historic Preservation Program that is part of the College of Design at the University of Kentucky. Her presentation ("Woodburn Farm: A History - It's Impact on the Equine and Agricultural Landscape of Central Kentucky)was on her research of Woodburn Farm and the Alexander Family. They owned the great thoroughbred stallion "Lexington". They started thoroughbred pedigree record keeping along with boarding services, horse sales and timing horses or clockwork in America. Ms. Peckler also cited many quotes from clubmember Jo Fisher's book "For All Times; The Story of Lucas Brodhead". Mr. Brodhead was the Alexander's farm manager at Woodburn. Woodburn and the Alexander's left quite a farming legacy with many practices still in use today.
The door prize was a copy of Jo Fisher's book with Diane White being the winner!

Ann Daughtery, Midway Woman's Club member and Francisco's Farm Art Fair Chair, spoke about the upcoming event and volunteer opportunities. Dates for the event are June 10 & 11, 2006. The meeting was light on business to leave plenty of time for Midway Woman's Club member Kelly Brengelman to perform her Chautauqua of Ruth Hanly Booe one of the founders of Rebecca Ruth Candies in Frankfort. This was the first time for Kelly's children and husband to see her performance. Her performance lasted about 50 minutes and was very entertaining and educational. The next regular monthly meeting will be March 2, 2006 at 7:00 pm at the Clubhouse. MWC member Kelly Brengelman and Kentucky Chautauqua presenter will be bringing Ruth Hanly Booe to life. Ruth and her friend Rebecca founded Rebecca Ruth Candies that is a thriving business to this day. The public, including children, are invited to this special presentation.
(back to the top)The MWC Spring/Summer Children's Clothing Equipment and Toy Consignment Sale is looking for interested sellers with quality items in good repair.
Set Up and Sale Times - Set up for the sale will be Thursday, March 16 from 5-7 PM with exclusive seller only shopping from 7-7:30 PM and MWC member only shopping from 7:30 to 8:30 PM that same evening. The sale will be held at the Clubhouse at 233 South Gratz Street on Friday, March 17 from 6-9 PM and Saturday, March 18 from 8 am till noon.
Who benefits - All sellers receive 75 percent of the sale price and the MWC gets 25 percent. The MWC handles all advertising for the sale with announcements and classified adds in several local newspapers.
Staffing - Each seller is required to work at least a two hour shift during the sale. Pick Up -Any items not picked up after the end of the sale on Saturday will be donated to the Hope Ministries Clothing Bank in Versailles.
What to Sell - Items for sale can include highchairs, cribs, strollers, car seats, indoor and outdoor toys, videos, shoes and spring and summer clothing only. A Fall/Winter Consignment Sale will be held in the Fall of 2006.
Display - Clothing must be on hangers. Hangers display your items more effectively than piles on tables. Small items such as socks and shoes should be in plastic bags and tagged. Price tags - An index card should be safety pinned to each item to include the following information: your seller number(top left of card), brief item description with size (center) and price(top right). Clothes will be displayed by size. securely tape price tags to toys and equipment. To use the store-like tagger system call the phone number provided. Pricing - Pricing must be in 25 cent increments. If you want to keep track of what you are selling we suggest you make a numbered list if items you are selling and put corresponding numbers on the tags.
Misc - Remember torn, stained or damaged clothing or equipment does not sell. Please bring items that are in good condition, which will give our sale a good reputation and creates a loyal following. The club will pull items deemed to be in poor condition. Sellers - As of January 20th eight sellers have signed up.

The next Second Thursday Lunch Meeting will be February 9th at 11:30 at the clubhouse. The speaker will be club members Penny Woods and Melinda Caldwell. They will discuss the adoption process of their daughters from China. They will show a short video compilation of their experience. Coffee and lemonade will be supplied.
